Summer is fast approaching and, with it, comes prime boating season. But is your boat ready for you to get the most use out of it this year? From tune-ups to marine ceramic coating, this blog will give you a few tips to make sure your boat is in shipshape this season.
Get a Tune-Up
Our first tip may seem obvious, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important. If your boat has been sitting in storage, getting everything checked over can save you a lot of future headaches.
Check Water Heater and Thermostat
Your water pump will probably need to be replaced every 2 years, or after about 200 hours of use. Also, make sure yours isn’t hot, replace the antifreeze, flush out your system and follow other owner’s manual instructions.
Check Fluids, Filters, and Battery
Make sure your battery is fully charged and cleaned. Check your oil and oil filter, and change them if it’s been more than si months or 375 hours of boating. Other fluids, like fuel filters and transmission oil, need to be changed every one to two years.
Check the Interior and Exterior
Clean Interior and Check Equipment
Go over the interior of your boat and check seats, covers, and other fabric or vinyl items. Make sure there are no tears and clean any dirt. Check your safety equipment and ensure you have all necessary items, including life jackets, flags, sunscreen and fire extinguishers.
Clean and Prep Deck and Hull with Marine Ceramic Coating
Inspect your hull and check for damage such as cracks or blisters. After this, clean the hull, topsides, and deck. For added protection, a marine ceramic coating is an option. Onyx Coating’s Marine Ceramic Coating protects against scratching, UV damage saltwater, oxidation, stains, and chemicals. It is also durable and requires little maintenance while providing the highest level of protection and a beautiful glossy finish.
Just a few simple tasks and a good check-up will have your boat ready for action and let you be ready for a season full of fun.
